You’ve heard of speed dating, right? But what about speed mentoring? With a blow of the whistle from former first lady Barbara Bush, dozens of eager young ladies of the corporate working world were off to learn about what it takes be become a success.

Friday afternoon they trekked from room to room at a downtown law firm every 10 minutes meeting already accomplished female professionals face-to-face. We’re talking about high-powered politicians and business leaders like Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, and former U.S. Representative Susan Molinari to name just a few.

"Oh my gosh, to have the opportunity to meet so many prominent female successful women, I would not pass this up,” said Shameka Whiting.

The best part for the so-called mentees, the event was free.

Former White House press secretary Dana Perino, who traveled the world working for President George W. Bush, came up with Minute Mentoring because she got so many requests from young female professionals for advice. But she couldn’t accommodate them all. “A lot of mentors can give advice on mistakes they’ve made along the way or good experiences they had had, and things they learned to do over time,” said Perino.

You might call it girl power or women helping women pave a path to success. “Have fun with it, have confidence in yourself and learn to take risks and if you fail it’s not the end of it,” said Molinari.

This was just the second Minute Mentoring event ever. The first session was held late last year in Washington D.C.
