HOUSTON - A 13-year-old Muslim student from Katy ISD is hospitalized Thursday night after being beaten and called a terrorist.
It happened Tuesday at Beckendorff Junior High School. Abdul Hamed's father says his son's jaw and tooth were broken after getting into a fight with a classmate.
But Hamed says it didn't end there for his son. He claims the 13-year-old was called a terrorist who bombed buildings by the classmate who allegedly attacked him.
The school district issued a statement to FOX 26 News stating both students were minorities in this case, and they both called each other racial and ethnic slurs.
A spokesperson for the district says if it was brought to their attention sooner the altercation could've been prevented.
“I am very disappointed that our students behaved this way as we absolutely do not tolerate this kind of behavior,” the school’s principal, Ted Vierling, wrote in another statement. “I also regret that the school was not made aware of this situation by either the students or their parents. Our staff and parents model for our students every day how to treat others with dignity and respect and we will continue to do so.”
