PASADENA, Texas - A woman accused in the shooting of two neighbors and her husband makes her first appearance in court on Tuesday.
Bond was set at $50,000 for Tanya Lin Schmidt, 40, who is charged with murder. State prosecutors wanted Schmidt's bond increased to $80,000 but her defense attorney argued that her bond needed to be decreased because she has two children, ages 2 and 12, to care for. The defense attorney also said Schmidt would need to care for her injured husband, Karl Schmidt, who she allegedly shot.
The shooting took place after 9 p.m. Saturday at the 4900 block of Bland Street in Pasadena. Schmidt's neighbor Laura Hinson, 36, died in the shooting and Tommy Hinson, the victim's husband, was shot in the chest and shoulder but is expected to recover.
The two couples had an ongoing feud.
If Schmidt is released on bond, she will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device and will be allowed to care for her children.
