HOUSTON - Days before Christmas a former Aldine ISD bus driver accused of running over a student and killing her turns herself.
FOX 26 cameras were rolling when she walked into the Harris county jail Tuesday night.
Nellie Cormier is officially charged with criminally negligent homicide.
Investigators say Alma Meza some how got in front of the bus driven by Cormier, was knocked over then run over by it. The 15-year-old died at the scene.
Prosecutors will argue while she may not have intended to run over the child, she failed to take steps to prevent an accident like this one.
Before she walked into the jail, she spoke directly into FOX 26’s camera hoping the teen's family would hear her.
“Please forgive me because I am not a violent person. I am not a vicious person," said Cormier.
She worked for Aldine ISD for several decades before the accident.
Cormier was released Tuesday night on a $30,000 bond.
