HOUSTON - Two people are accused of killing a Houston man whose body was found buried near Coldspring and his sports car was posted "for sale" nearby.
San Jacinto County District Attorney Bill Burnett says murder charges have been filed against a husband and wife who were living in a mobile home near where the body was located Saturday.
Burnett on Tuesday told The Associated Press that bail was $500,000 apiece for 49-year-old James Michael McLaughlin and 48-year-old Rebecca McLaughlin. Burnett had no record of attorneys for the couple.
The prosecutor says Rebecca McLaughlin knew 52-year-old Ronald James Dewars, who was trying to sell his black 2007 Shelby Mustang. Dewars' girlfriend reported him missing Nov. 27.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and San Jacinto County District Attorney's Office conducted a joint investigation to find Dewars.Investigators found the body buried at the 200 block of Stephens Creek Circle near Coldspring on Saturday. An autopsy at the Jefferson County Morgue determined the body as that of Dewars.
The cause of death was not released.
The vehicle has been confiscated.
