As part of National Adoption Month, more than 30 families took part in ceremony in downtown Houston organized by Child Protective Services.
More than 1,700 children in the Houston area that are in CPS custody are in need of permanent homes. More than 60 of those children were adopted into families on Friday. While the adoptive parents had already formed family bonds with the children, the ceremony presided over by a judge made it legal.
Many of the children adopted on Friday are either older, part of a sibling group or have special needs. Those children were in CPS custody because they were victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment.
