American military veterans have a variety of benefits and services available to them but accessing them can be complicated.
The non-profit organization Disabled American Veterans is offering free assistance toward veteran benefits on Friday at Harley-Davidson in The Woodlands.
DAV welcomes veterans and their families to come to the motorcycle dealership with questions or issues. The DAV is even helping veterans fill out claim forms.
The event is part of a national effort called the Harley's Heroes Tour, but on Friday, veterans who took part in the event were thinking about the tragedy at Fort Hood.
"Just to think that a fellow military member could do such harm and devastation to fellow members of his organization it's unfathomable. I just can't understand it," said Ret. Lt. Col. Charles Tucker, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 27 years. Tucker works at the Harley-Davidson dealership in customer service and says he is proud that his company has a long history of helping American veterans.
Kenneth Wells, also a Marine Corps veteran, says, "I think that this is just a continuation of 9/11. It's just they seized an opportunity to attack the United States in a different method."
The DAV will help veterans until 6 p.m. on Friday at Harley-Davidson of The Woodlands on 25545 North Freeway.
