Law enforcement officials are teaming up this Halloween to make sure kids are safe from predators while they venture on trick-or-treat missions.

Deputies, probation officers and parole officers plan to drive to the homes of registered sex offenders on probation or on parole throughout Precinct 6 of Harris County to make sure there aren't any Halloween decorations or other items that may be used to lure children to their homes, according to a Harris County Pct. 6 statement.

The effort will focus on areas within Precinct 6, including the East End, East Downtown, Denver Harbor, Magnolia Park, Manchester, Near North side and Fifth Ward communities.

Officials have already notified offenders that they must turn off their porch lights and not open their doors to trick-or-treaters Halloween night, according to the statement. They've also been warned that no interaction with children will be tolerated and engaging in Halloween-related activities may be in violation of their probation requirements.

The effort is an amalgamate of officials from Harris County Constable Precinct 6 Victor Trevino, the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Parole Division.

Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Trevino said the initiative between all the agencies is important in continuing to pull resources together for the safety of our children.

“The most beautiful treasure we have, it is not the car, it is not the house, it is not the money. The most beautiful treasure we have is our children,” Harris County Pct. 6 Constable's Office Victor Trevino said in the statement. “We must continue to protect and create a safer environment for our children.”
