Female Veterans Honored With Monument

A former Marine is in the final stages of building a monument devoted to female veterans.

Tom Mixon is building the monument next to his private museum in the city of South Houston.

The 78-year-old Korean War vet says women in the military have never received the recognition they deserve.

For decades, Mixon says, women served in support roles that were vital but often went unnoticed.

Today, many women put their lives on the line while serving in the military

"They know it's the right thing or they wouldn't do it. I'm glad there are still people like that," Mixon says.
