Parents of students at North Forest High School have been notified of a suspected case of tuberculosis, but school officials would not identify the patient as a student or worker.
The school district’s spokeswoman says those who may have come in contact with the person have also been notified.
A letter sent home on Wednesday night says symptoms of the disease include an unexplained cough for at least 3 weeks, unintentional weight loss, hemoptysis (coughing of blood), fever, night sweats or extreme fatigue. In a child, tuberculosis can present as a failure to thrive.
The Houston Department of Health will held a parent meeting on Wednesday night. If you have any questions, you may call the City of Houston, Tuberculosis Control at 713-798-0859.
