For hundreds of people in Texas City, Sunday worship took on new meaning on Sept. 27. A little more than three weeks ago, St. Johns United Methodist church was destroyed by fire.
As St. John scrambled to recover Calvary Baptist church was struggling to deal with dwindling membership. Calvary had to hold service in a smaller room at their worship center because only a few dozen people were showing up. In the middle of two very different tragedies a solution was born.
Calvary agreed to allow St. Johns to use its sanctuary for the next twelve months while it rebuilds.
"It is not a rental agreement in the sense of a lot of dollars and cents being exchanged. It is just a great arrangement," said St. John's Methodist Church Pastor Tom Crowe, St. John's Methodist Church.
