CROSBY, Texas - The body of an elderly woman missing since last Thursday has been found about a mile from her car in a wooded area of Dayton.
Doris King, 71, was spotted by a Houston police helicopter just after 9 a.m., one week after her disappearance.
King's husband, William King, says his wife suffered from dementia and was last seen driving near their Crosby home on the night of Aug. 6.
Searchers on Wednesday found the woman's car stuck in water and mud near County Road 6242.
According to her husband, last Thursday she got angry, demanded her car keys and drove off from their home. He worries Alzheimer disease and Dementia may have made it tough for his wife to find her way home.
The car popped up nearly twenty miles away from their home. Investigators found some of her personal property inside the car.
Bloodhounds picked up her scent. Their movement hints at the path she may have followed from her car. The dog was moving north from the location of the vehicle on the road way, said Harris County Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Mike Conner.
"She is not a walker, she can walk, but she doesn't walk very much," said Kings husband.
Investigators say the car's doors were unlocked. The Houston Police lake division is assisted Harris County with the investigation. Officers searched nearby waterways for any clues to King's disappearance.
According to the National Alzheimer's Association, 60 percent of people with dementia will wander away.
If they're not located with 24 hours, half will suffer serious injury or death.
