Nearly 65 residents found themselves picking up the pieces of their lives this Fourth of July after a massive three alarm apartment fire in Baytown consumed their homes and belongings.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, heavy flames were reported shooting from the roof of the Sunshine Apartment complex in the 4500 block of Hemlock Drive at Baker Road.
Fire officials said the fire spread through the common attic and began consuming the entire building.
Due to the size and intensity of the fire, Baytown firefighters contacted Channelview and Crosby volunteer fire departments to assist in battling the blaze.
Twenty-six units were consumed by the blaze, leaving 65 residents looking for a new place to stay this holiday. The Red Cross was called to assist those fire victims in locating shelter for the night.
No serious injuries were reported, however, a preganant woman was treated at the scene when she began suffering from anxiety attacks, say fire officials.
Residents at the scene say that a circuit breaker went out, which started the fire, although that has not been officially ruled as the cause. Arson investigators are trying to determine the actual cause of the fire.
