HOUSTON - Firefighters said low water pressure in the city's pumps delayed them from extinguishing a fire that destroyed a Katy warehouse Monday afternoon.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out at the warehouse at the intersection of Katy Fort Bend Road and 3rd Street, but the building was destroyed.

Two people escaped the fire and called 911, and several fire departments responded to the scene.

However, firefighters didn't have enough water flowing through the pipes to extinguish the fire, so they requested the city officials release more water.

The back of the building collapsed, and the front of the building had to be knocked down so firefighters could expose and put out the flames.

Officials the Katy's Public Works Department said the drought and excessive water usage contributed to the low water pressure.

However, they say this was the first water problem reported in the city and all the city's pumps appear to be working fine.
