HOUSTON - Officials are searching for an identity thief they say cashed more than $1,000 in fraudulent checks.

A Baytown resident alerted officials after he believed he was a victim of identity theft, according to a statement issued by the Baytown Police Department. He became concerned after he received letters from collection agencies regarding two checks totaling about $1,100 that he did not write.

An investigation later determined that the checks had been cashed on June 3 at an Humble grocery store in the 19000 block of West Lake Houston Parkway.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect is encouraged to contact Detective Alan Cliburn at 281-420-5857 or call Crime Stoppers at 281-427-8477.
