HOUSTON - The summer of 2009 has barely begun and there have been two serious car surfing accidents in the Houston area.
Car surfing is a dangerous game where people ride on the hoods
of moving cars.
In the last few years, the deadly game has become so popular
that videos of the risky hobby continue to emerge on the internet
video websites, even though the amount of people dying from the
practice continue to increase.
Eric Rodriguez, 18, died while car surfing in Houston during
the summer of 2007. His mother, Tonya Rodriguez, reached the site
of the accident before police or paramedics.
"I ran and I said, 'Eric, baby, talk to me! It is mama!' He
had a crown of blood around his head."
The Rodriguez family now encourages parents to search for
signs that their teens have been car surfing, which include dents
on the hood of the family vehicle and frequent mechanical
problems.
