Victoria Osteen Promotes Child Literacy

HOUSTON - Everyone knows Victoria Osteen as the co-pastor of Lakewood Church and wife of pastor Joel Osteen, but she is also organizing an effort to increase literacy among children.

The Victoria Osteen's Literacy Program was launched on Sunday at Lakewood Church with help from the book publishing company Simon & Schuster, which donated more than 500 books to distribute for the effort.

Osteen presented her recommended summer reading selections for children and read some of her favorite children's book excerpts to boys and girls at Lakewood Church.

As an author of children's books herself, Osteen has written "Gifts from the Heart," the latest in the Little Simon Inspirations series.
