Some Klein High School parents fear the campus may be shut down once a new high school is built in three years.
The new campus was supposed to be the district's fifth high school under a bond issue passed in 2008. Under the plan, Klein students would have been transferred temporarily to the new school while theirs was being renovated.
But now, the district says the economy is forcing it to consider leaving the kids at the new campus permanently and use the Klein High School building for administrative purposes only.
Klein ISD Spokeswoman Trazanna Moreno says the district has no choice but to reconsider its plans.
"The district had no intention to mislead or be disingenuous when we proposed the 2008 bond plan that passed," Moreno said. "That was the right plan at the time."
The original could still remain in effect, but no decision will be made before January, she said.
