According to a new survey, men are quicker to declare their love for their partner than women.

The survey conducted by Stella magazine for the Sunday Telegraph found that men take an average of seven months to tell a new partner that they love them, while women take almost eight months.

"Although women do tend to wear their heart on their sleeves more than men do, men are just as emotional and sensitive -- sometimes even more so," Jenni Trent Hughes, a relationship counselor told the Telegraph .

Almost 2,000 men and women of all ages and backgrounds who have been on a date in the past year were asked several questions about their dating habits.

The oldest age group surveyed also turned out to be the most interesting. The survey found that people over 55 are the most active -- and experimental -- of all age groups, when it comes to dating.

It also found that almost two-thirds of men and women over 55 have joined Internet dating Web sites. The older age group had more lasting relationships with partners they had met on the Internet than any other age group. They also met more sexual partners online (an average of 2.4) than any other age group, with the exception of the 45- to 54-year-olds.

Relationship expert Wendy Atterberry doesn't necessarily agree with the results of the survey. She says women should always let men say "I love you" first because she believes it often takes men longer to get there than it does for women so a woman could be risking not getting the response she wants if she expresses her love first.

And if you have trouble putting your feelings into words, WebMB offers 21 ways to say "I love you" without actually saying the words.
