Cinderella almost missed the Ball because she didn't have a dress. But her Fairy Godmother came through, in the nick of time.

And now, some real-life Fairy Godmothers are making dreams come true for some Houston area teenagers, to make sure they can all be the "belles of the ball."

If Anita Warner had a magic wand, she'd whip up the perfect prom dress for her daughter, Leslie. But Anita's want has been battered by a series of storms.

One destroyed her home. The rest are threatening her life.

Already weakened by the Multiple Schlerosis she's been fighting for the past thirteen years, Anita's now undergoing chemo and radiation treatments for the cancer that came back after four years in remission. Through it all, she says, her daughter, Leslie, has been right by her side.

"She's just 18," says Anita, "and I think it's rough on her to kinda keep taking care of me all the time."

With prom approaching, Anita worried her daughter, now a senior at South Houston High School, would sit out the dance, because they couldn't afford a dress.

"At first, she didn't want to go," recalls Anita, "and we told her, 'no! This is the last time! This needs to happen!' "

Neighbor Wanda Wern offered the dress her daughter wore, but it was the wrong size.

Then, she turned on FOX 26 News, Monday morning, and as if by magic, "I said, 'Look at this!'" Wanda clapped her hands.

There they were -- Official Fairy Godmothers for the non-profit Giving Gown Foundation, fielding calls from those in need of prom dress donations, and those wanting to help. Wanda couldn't get to the phone fast enough.

The Giving Gown Foundation collects donations of new and "like new" formal gowns and accessories, to give girls like Leslie the chance to shine.

"I think it's wonderful," smiles Anita. "She needs it, doesn't she?" she looks to her friend Wanda who nods in agreement.

And what young Cinderella doesn't deserve to shine on her special night?

"She's going to be so excited!" Anita exclaims with anticipation.

Wanda is now donating her daughter's gown. Anyone with new or gently worn gowns to donate can drop them off at various locations throughout the Greater Houston area.

Those in need of dresses can register on the Giving Gown website at www.givinggown.org, which contains a list of all the drop-off locations, an online registration form.

It also contains complete details about the upcoming "Boutique Days" on March 27 and 28, where the gowns and the girls will come together.

Thanks to Giving Gown and hundreds of generous Houstonians, it's a Cinderella story come true.
