A former Houston high school teacher is formally charged with two counts of possessing child pornography.

On Thursday, Thomas Edward Kelley was released on $40,000 bond. Kelley is forbidden from having any contact with minors or logging onto the internet.

Investigators say Kelley collected hundreds of cyber images of children engaged sexual acts.

The suspect is also a father and was a respected teacher at the prestigious Kinkaid school in the Memorial area of Houston.

When the Kinkaid school learned about the investigation, Mr. Kelly was fired.

This came as good news to some whose children attend the Kinkaid School.

"It is shocking and upsetting and obviously something they needed to look into make sure the children at Kinkaid are safe," said Stephanie Hamilton.

Others are willing to give Kelly the benefit of the doubt as the justice process is carried out.

In March, investigators confiscated computers and other electronic equipment from Kelly's home after they say they received a tip from his ex-wife.

FOX 26 News went to the suspect's home seeking comment, but no one came to the door.

If found guilty, he could spend decades in prison and be forced to register as a sex offender for life.
