MyFoxHouston - Some scammers are after your iTunes account, and a free website is offering up free music. It’s all in today’s Tech Minute ’

iTunes, Paypal Phishing Scams on the Rise
There’s a new wave of people who say their iTunes and Paypal accounts have been compromised, but security analysts believe no hacking was involved. Instead, there’s a surge of ’phishing’ scams tricking people into giving up their passwords. The scammers then run up the bill on the victim’s iTunes account or empty out their PayPal account. It’s just another reason everyone needs to safe guard their passwords, and you should never use the same password for your accounts (this means you need a different password for e-mail, Facebook, iTunes, etc.) In addition, ANYTIME you’re typing in your password to log in on ANY service, you should always double check the URL and make sure you’re on the real website you’re logging into. This means the URL should say http://www.paypal.com and not something like http://paypal.thisway555.com/paypallogin/. At first glance, it might look like the real PayPal website, but it’s not.

Google to Search While you Type?
Google is said to be testing a ’search while you type’ function. It would perform Internet searches while you’re still typing out what you wanted to look for, instead of you pushing ’enter.’ The belief is it can predict what you’re looking for and have the results displayed before you even finish typing it. Google won’t confirm it, instead saying they always have ’hundreds’ of new search functions in the works. No word on when the new feature might go active.

New Website Offers Free Music for the Downloading (Legally)
Take a look at Guvera when you get a chance. It’s a recently-launched website that says it’s a new way to get free music, while the artists you like still get paid. From today’s pop stars (like Lady Gaga) to the classics, you only need to register for a free account to start searching for the music you want. The music can be both streamed or downloaded to a computer or mobile device. So who pays for it? In short, advertisers. Sponsors pay for certain music, gearing the product or content towards particular audiences depending on the music type. It’s a totally new concept, and it’s really cool.
