As the new school year approaches, it is important for families to get a healthy start.
Dr. Sara Rizvi, from Baylor College of Medicine explains on FOX 26 Morning News what medical considerations parents should make for the school-bound children.
Rizvi recommends that young children and teens have an updated immunization record and be provided with the flu virus vaccine.
Back to school checkups with a doctor are also recommended for students preparing to return to campus.
If a student needs to take medication for certain conditions, a parent should notify school administrators and the school nurse so that the student does not take a risk of suspension or expulsion for bringing prescription drugs onto campus without permission.
