HOUSTON - For parents searching for a constructive spring break activity for their children, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has a special program that allows kids to spend time with critters.

During the Houston SPCA 2010 Spring Break Critter Camp, children will learn all about being good pet owners, why animals act like they do, how a shelter works, the needs of animals and how to help animals around the world. They will also learn from guest speakers who work in the world of animals.

Children will also make treats for shelter animals to enjoy and that their own pets can also enjoy.

The camp is open to children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old starting on March 15 and ending on March 19. Campers arrive at the Houston SPCA Annex on 7007 Katy Freeway at 9 a.m. and stay until 3 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $65 per day per child or $275 for all 5 days.
The registration fee includes all craft materials and afternoon snacks and drinks. Campers must bring a lunch each day. Acceptance to a camp session is on a first come first serve basis.
