Thanksgiving dinner means more than a lot of good food. It also includes plenty to drink.
Whether choosing between wine, beer, soda or coffee, many of those beverages come with sugar and calories.
Doctor Rebecca Reeves, registered dietitian with Baylor College of Medicine, suggests ways to help make wise drinking choices during the holiday season.
While black coffee only has 5 calories, a latte contains 190 calories, a pumpkin spice Frappucino from Starbucks Coffee Company yields 400 calories and still 290 calories without whipped cream. Hot chocolate can contain as many as 370 calories.
Among alcoholic beverages, an 8-ounce glass of wine has 150 calories, most beer servings, such as the lager varieties, have 150 calories, while heavier beers, like porter, bring 200 calories per serving. Light beers usually contain 100 calories. A 1-ounce serving of liquor translates to 65 calories each serving, but a 4-ounce margarita yields 168 calories.
