While the Baby Moses law allows children to be abandoned at safe havens such as police and fire stations, the same situation does not follow for pets.
Meera Nandlal from the Houston SPCA says one German Shepherd was left at the organization's building tied to a pole, and she says that is not a safe option.
Anyone can make an appointment with the Houston SPCA to leave an unwanted pet by contacting 713-869-7722, seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Houston SPCA 24-Hour Rescue Ambulance will pick up stray, injured animals and can be contacted at 713-880-4357 (HELP).
