A non-profit health system is planning to build a new full-service hospital in Alvin, and the facility is expected to eventually create more than 400 jobs, the city's mayor announced Wednesday.
The plans to build the $100 million hospital were unveiled Wednesday at the Alvin City Council meeting.
The facility is going to be built on a 93-acre plot of land Highway 35 North and will be managed by administrators of CHRISTUS Health, an international Catholic health system, according to a statement from the city of Alvin.
“We are honored and pleased that the city of Alvin has invited us to join with them in providing high quality health care to their community,” Thomas C. Royer, M.D., president and CEO of CHRISTUS Health, said in the statement. “CHRISTUS has a 140-year legacy of providing care to those who need it in a variety of settings, from acute care hospitals to senior living campuses and home care programs, and we look forward to bringing that experience and our compassion for healing to the city of Alvin.”
Alvin Mayor Gary Appelt said that more than 274 jobs are expected to be created with average annual incomes of $45,000, according to the statement.
But the number of direct jobs is expected to increase to 420 over the next 10 years, as well as hopes for the creation of another 428 indirect jobs in the same time frame, according to the statement.
“We feel that this partnership will provide the citizens of Alvin with access to excellent care right in their own back yards,” Patrick Carrier, president and CEO of the CHRISTUS Health Gulf Coast region, said in the statement. “CHRISTUS facilities are deeply committed to providing the highest quality care to all who need it in a caring, compassionate manner.
Other CHRISTUS hospitals in the region include CHRISTUS St. John Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas and CHRISTUS St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas as well as San Jose Clinic and CHRISTUS VNA in Houston.
