More than 74,000 gathered Sunday at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Go Tejano Day to break the all-time paid Rodeo attendance record. The previous RodeoHouston attendance record was set in 2008 at the show featuring the performance by Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, which attracted more than 73,000 people.
The featured concert performers for Go Tejano Day 2009 were Alacranes Musical and Ramon Ayala as the headlining act.
Ayala, who previously performed at Go Tejano Day in 2002 and 2006, is best known for his bar anthem "Tragos Amargos."
"On behalf of its 21,000 volunteers, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeoâ„¢ is so grateful to the entire Hispanic community for this record-breaking paid rodeo attendance. It certainly helps us further our commitment to youth and education and our support of the agricultural industry," said Leroy Shafer, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo chief operating officer.
The record-breaking crowd also beat the previous Go Tejano Day attendance record set on March 16, 2008, which featured performances by Duelo y Los Horoscopos de Durango; the attendance that evening was 71,165.
