HOUSTON - A spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney's Office says a warrant has been issued for singer Emilio Navaira.
A misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated was filed in Houston on Friday against the Tejano music star over his March 2008 tour bus wreck.
The Grammy-winning singer was critically injured while driving in his tour bus on the 610 Loop. Police say the band's bus slammed into traffic barrels just before dawn in the posh enclave of Bellaire. Doctors performed two brain surgeries and repaired an aneurysm in his right lung. Two others on the bus were transported to Memorial Hermann, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Navaira and Rio have released more than a dozen albums, including "Acuerdate" that won the 2003 Grammy for best Tejano album.
Navaira's bond was set at $5,000. He has previously been arrested twice on DWI charges.
