Houston Billionaire, Philanthropist Dan L. Duncan Dead at 77

HOUSTON - A Houston billionaire who ranked 74th on a list of the world’s richest people is now dead. He was known for his generous support of the Houston medical community.

Dan L. Duncan, 77, died Sunday night at his home.

According to Forbes, Duncan was Chairman of the Board for Enterprise Products Partners, a company he started in 1968. In 2010, he ranked in the top 100 of Forbe's Richest.

The company confirmed Duncan’s death in a statement on its website.

"The entire Enterprise family mourns the unexpected passing of Dan Duncan who will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," said Michael A. Creel, Enterprise president and chief executive officer.

According to the statement, Duncan gave generously to the Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. One of Duncan’s goals was "ensuring Houston remain a leader in the field of medical research, treatment and prevention of cancer."

Duncan survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.

The circumstances leading up to his death were not immediately known.
