Andrea Watkins
Andrea Watkins is a veteran on the FOX 26 reporting team covering major local and national news stories weekday mornings on FOX 26 Morning News 5-9 a.m. Andrea brings perspective to current events having come to Houston 19 years ago, starting at FOX 26 as a weekend anchor/reporter in 1990.
Over the years Andrea has reported on a wide variety of stories, from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, to the Houston Rockets back-to-back NBA titles in 1994 and 1995. Her feature reports have has taken us through the Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing course, taken us to a US and British joint exercise involving more than 50,000 military personnel, and brought us an award winning profile of a Houston make-up artist who helped boost the self esteem of cancer survivors while she herself was undergoing chemotherapy. Andrea continues to this day to follow events connected to the 1993 murders of Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena, one of Houston's most notorious crimes.
Andrea was born in San Diego, but grew up in Connecticut. She
studied finance at the University of Connecticut but decided to
follow her dream to be a sportscaster. Andrea's path detoured into
news reporting where she found her true passion. Andrea spent four
years at KFDA-TV in Amarillo, eventually holding the positions of
noon anchor, assignments manager and assistant news director
simultaneously.
When not in the FOX 26 newsroom, she can be found with her
husband and two sons. Andrea is a proud and active mom and one of
the family's favorite activities is camping.
