FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A Fort Worth man faces up to 20 years in prison in an oil and gas Ponzi scheme that attracted nearly $6 million in investments. Jeffrey Watts pleaded guilty yesterday to wire fraud. Watts was charged in March and arrested in May in Oregon. He faces sentencing later this year in Fort Worth.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Austin police are searching for a group of men they say are responsible for at least eight armed robberies. Police say the group of two to four men in their 20s committed the robberies in June and July. Police say the men have robbed a liquor store, a gas station and restaurants.

HOUSTON (AP) - A New York City real estate heir has been freed on bond in a Houston case in which he allegedly urinated on a candy display inside a pharmacy. Robert Durst turned himself in yesterday on a criminal mischief charge from the weekend incident. Authorities say Durst argued with store employees and relieved himself on about $100 worth of candy.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The House Select Committee on Child Protection will meet today for the first time since two foster children drowned over July Fourth weekend. The state's 17,000-child foster system has been under scrutiny since seven children died of abuse or neglect in fiscal year 2013. A recent outside review found that child protective caseworkers statewide only spend 26 percent of their job meeting with youngsters and families.
